Katie Alleva is a practicing artist and highly qualified educator living in the Byron Shire. Katie currently teaches printmaking at drawing at TAFE, Murwillumbah. She has exhibited widely across regional Australia and has been the recipient of numerous awards. Her love of cyanotype stems from her early exposure to pinhole photography at age fourteen. Katie loves the immediacy of solar printing. She describes the technique as 'nature's magic,' using the sun's UV rays to expose an impression on paper. Washing the print also holds significance to her, she calls it a 'washing within,' like a cleansing of the spirit. The use of botanicals is influenced by her love of flowers and working as a florist in her early twenties.
