Jaardu in hindi literally means “Magic”.

Born in Australia of Sri Lankan Tamil and British descent, in 1978 Jaadu, at the age of 17, traveled to India, where he spent two years in remote villages learning the traditional skills and feats of the Indian fakirs. Fakirs are Indian magicians, said to have supernatural powers, and able to do wild physical feats that defy the maxims of Western science. These include charming deadly snakes in large baskets with the use of musical instruments, sword swallowing, lying near-naked on a bed of sharp nails without incurring any injuries, levitation and the infamous Indian rope trick.

Over the last 28 years Andrew has maintained a very special relationship with a group of gypsy magicians in northern India known as Madari. They are a group of nameless performers who have travelled the county performing in village market places, festivals and tourist towns for hundreds of years.

Through his experiences living, performing and travelling with these performers Andrew has developed a unique show encompasses astounding magic, sword-swallowing and an original snake charming routine. He has spent the past sixteen years touring throughout Europe, Canada, Australia and South East Asia with this colorful, energetic show of intrigue, suspense, mystique and humor.

Day: Sunday

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of botanical cyanotype printing. Capture the beauty of local flowers and unleash your creativity in this inspiring hands-on experience.

Katie Alleva is a practicing artist and highly qualified educator living in the Byron Shire. Katie currently teaches printmaking at drawing at TAFE, Murwillumbah. She has exhibited widely across regional Australia and has been the recipient of numerous awards. Her love of cyanotype stems from her early exposure to pinhole photography at age fourteen. Katie loves the immediacy of solar printing. She describes the technique as 'nature's magic,' using the sun's UV rays to expose an impression on paper. Washing the print also holds significance to her, she calls it a 'washing within,' like a cleansing of the spirit. The use of botanicals is influenced by her love of flowers and working as a florist in her early twenties.

While celebrating the diversity and creativity here, take a moment, make a statement - come alone or bring a friend, rest awhile and be adorned.

Founded in 1999 by Oriel Paterson (BA Art History & Anthropology), who leads a team of henna artists at corporate and cultural events. A journey to Morocco in 1996 set her path of henna fascination, but her childhood in East Africa and U.A.E initiated an appreciation of culturally diverse aesthetics and a deep intrigue in our human connection. Oriel’s relationship with the, quite frankly, ritual use of this plant includes, specialising in fresh-mixed, non-toxic henna paste, traditional application and hand-drawn design.
